John White ’ s Journal of a Voyage to New South Wales is one of the first detailed accounts that describes many Australian species.
White disliked his new home and described the continent as “ a country and place so forbidding and so hateful as only to merit execration and curses. ”
White spent only a few years Down Under before leaving in 1794.
