Schmidts Schwester und Erbin, Frau Erika Peters-Schmidt ( 1899-1988 ), hat die Sammlung ihres Bruders der Universität Fribourg geschenkt.
Die Schenkungsurkunde vom 17. Mai 1981, unterzeichnet von der Donatorin, dem damaligen Rektos Prof. Bernhard Schnyder und Prof. Othmar Keel verbindet die Schenkung mit folgenden Auflagen:

Beweis dafür ist ein Tafelgemälde mit einer einzigartigen Gruppe abgebildeter Heiliger, einer Komposition, die die Heiligen Bernhard, Andreas und Malachias darstellt, ergänzt mit der Gestalt des Donators und einem sog.
„Bild im Bild“ mit dem Schmerzensreichen Christus.

The evidence of it is the tabular painting of a group of saints – St. Bernanrd, St. Ondrej and St. Malachiaš with the figure of the donator and the so-called „picture in picutre“ of The Suffering Christ.
Originally the tabular paintings comprised an integral whole, consisting of the central part and the movable wings.
