Das Interesse der Öffentlichkeit und die unübersichtliche Quellenlage haben das Bundesarchiv veranlasst, mit Hilfe der Deutschen Forschungsgemeinschaft ein Inventar der Quellen zur Geschichte der „ Euthanasie “ -Verbrechen 1939-1945 zu erstellen, das in elektronischer Form vorliegt und kontinuierlich ergänzt und korrigiert wird.

Hermann Keller schreibt in seinem Büchlein über das Wohltemperierte Klavier:

Schwencke must have thought that inadvertently this measure had gone astray in transmission and so he added it in the music text.
Nevertheless, there is no doubt that Bach intended the irregularity and compression of measures 21 – 23; the definiteness of the source situation is not to be shaken.

Tobias Glöckler präsentiert mit seiner Edition erstmals Dragonettis autograph überliefertes Arrangement für Kontrabass und Streichquartett.

Herausgeber von Editionen, die die Bassoktave in Takt 41 kommentarlos ergänzen ( wie Roy Howat in der Debussy-Gesamtausgabe, Serie I, Band 5 ), gehen trotz dieser Quellenlage ganz selbstverständlich von einem Fehler aus.
Aber vielleicht ist die Frage „ Fehler oder Absicht “ in diesem Fall auch falsch gestellt.

Editors of editions that add the bass octave in measure 41 without comment ( as does Roy Howat in the Debussy Complete Edition, Series I, Volume 5 ) take it for granted that this was a mistake despite the source situation.
But maybe the question “ by mistake or by design ” is wrong in this case.
