Der Senat ist neben dem Rektorat und dem Universitätsrat eines der drei leitenden Kollegialorgane der Universität Mozarteum Salzburg.
Die Wahl der 18 Senatsmitglieder erfolgt in den jeweiligen Kurien - er setzt sich somit aus neun VertreterInnen der ProfessorInnen, vier VertreterInnen der Lehrenden des Mittelbaus sowie einer/m VertreterIn der Universitätsangestellten zusammen.
Hinzu kommen vier Studierende, die von der Österreichischen HochschülerInnenschaft in den Senat delegiert werden.

The election of the 18 members of the Senate takes place in the relevant commission and thus consists of nine representatives of the professors, four representatives of the non-professorial teaching staff, as well as a representative of the university employees.
In addition there are four students who are delegated to the Senate from the Austrian Students' Union.
