Sie vereint etwa 100 Wirkstoffe, von besonderer Wichtigkeit sind dabei acht Glycoside, die für die außerordentliche Süße des Gewächses sorgen.
Das Steviosid beispielsweise ist etwa 300 mal süßer als unser herkömmlicher Haushaltszucker Saccharose.
