Einzigartig ist die Sammlung von hypogäischen Pilzen, angelegt von Rudoph Hesse und Grundlage für seine 1894 erschienenen “ Hypogäen Deutschlands ”, die unersetzliche Typusbelege enthält.
In Kooperation mit auswärtigen Kollegen werden gegenwärtig zahlreiche Pilzbelege aus Mazedonien und Turkmenistan bearbeitet und in das Herbarium Marburgense integriert.

A crucial part of this branch is the authentic collection of Albert Wigand, on which his “ Flora von Hessen und Nassau ” is based.Additionally, MB hosts seed collections and old precious alcohol fixed plant material from the 19 th century collected by Goebel.
The cryptogamic branch of MB contains collections of all groups of lower pants, lichens and fungi.
