The Havelburg cathedral, a Gothic-adapted, Romanesque pillar basilica, is one of the most outstanding architectural monuments in the Altmark.
The cathedral and former Praemonstratensian Monastery with cloister, chapter house, kitchen and dormitories dating from the 12-15th centuries attests to the unsettled history of the region in the last 1000 years.
Nothing remains of the first Ottonian cathedral.
