In 1981 Ager was elected president of the European Conference of New Music Organisers, an association that brings together organisers of new music from seven European countries.

Klaus Ager was born in Salzburg in 1946 and was pre-occupied already during his childhood with composing , compositional technique and learned to play the piano and violin .
After passing his final school examinations (Matura) he studied composition and conducting under Cesar Bresgen and Gerhard Wimberger at the Mozarteum University and musicology under Professor Croll at Salzburg University.
