The European Pond Turtle ( Emys orbicularis, L., 1758 ) is the only turtle species native in Switzerland.
Due to human impact, the species became extinct during the last centuries because of the high consumption by humans, the loss of its habitat and their nesting sites.

Die Sumpfschildkröte ( Emys orbicularis, L., 1758 ) ist die einzige einheimische Schildkrötenart in der Schweiz.
Diese Art verschwand in unserem Land wegen dem menschlichen Einfluss ( die Sumpfschildkröten wurden gegessen und ihre Wohn- und Nistplätze verschwanden ).
www.conservation.unibas.chIn a 3 Tesla MRI ( Tim Trio, Siemens, Erlangen ) using a 12-channel head coil, isometric high-resolution T1-weighted MRI data ( voxel size of 1 mm x 1 mm x 1 mm ) of the head of patients with unilateral peripheral facial palsy were acquired.
Subsequently, single facial muscles (eg orbicularis oris muscle) and muscle (eg zygomaticus major et minor, nasalis and levator labii superior muscles) and segmented muscle volume were determined.
As a control, both the muscles of the non-injured contralateral sides and the temporalis muscle than is not innervated from the fazialis nerv were segments.

Als Kontrolle dienten sowohl die nicht-geschädigte Gegenseite als auch beidseitig der M. temporalis als nicht vom N. fazialis innervierter Muskel.
