Early this month the Central African Republic had asked the African Group to take the initiative and call for a special session which was then endorsed by 39 States of the Council and 68 Observer States.
The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay at the opening of the session presented the results of the latest monitoring mission deployed in December 2013.

Die Zentralafrikanische Republik hatte Anfang Januar durch die Afrikanische Gruppe einen Antrag auf eine Sondersitzung gestellt, dem sich über 38 Mitgliedsstaaten und 65 Beobachterstaaten anschlossen.
Die Hochkommissarin für Menschenrechte, Navi Pillay, präsentierte zu Beginn der Sitzung die Ergebnisse ihrer letzten Feldmission, die im Dezember 2013 stattfand.
