Das Studiengangskonzept nimmt die unter dem Aspekt der Mediatisierung von Kultur und Gesellschaft diskutierten Transformationsprozesse im Medienbereich ernst, indem es jenseits der Trennung von öffentlicher Massenkommunikation und ‚neuen’ Formen interpersonaler Medienkommunikation bewusst übergreift und eine integrative Perspektive auf die Digitalisierung, Globalisierung und Ökonomisierung medial vermittelter Kommunikation vermittelt.
Dieser Fokus auf öffentliche und personale Kommunikation gleichermaßen erweitert die Perspektive der traditionellen Kommunikations- und Medienwissenschaft ohne auf die notwendige kommunikations- und medienwissenschaftliche Grundlagenausbildung zu verzichten.
