1998 war Sharjah UNESCO-Kulturhauptstadt der Arabischen Welt.
Bei unserem zweiten Besuch in Sharjah im April 2004 trafen wir den Leiter des Direktorats für Kunst , Hisham Al Madhloum .
Vom Kunstmuseum, wo wir uns verabredet hatten, gingen wir mit ihm auf einen nahe gelegenen, von Galerien und künstlerischen Werkstätten umsäumten Hof in der "Art Area", einem Komplex von Gebäuden im traditionellen Baustil, der auf einer Seite von modernen Hochhäusern und auf der anderen von der Corniche, der Uferstraße, begrenzt wird.

During our second visit to Sharjah in April 2004, we met the head of the Directorate of Art, Hisham Al Madhloum.
From the art museum where we had arranged to meet, we went to a nearby square surrounded by galleries and artists’ studios in the "Art Area", a complex of buildings in the traditional style, bounded on one side by modern high-rises and on the other side by the Corniche, the coastal road.

Auch Dr. Dhafir Al-Shanfari , Leiter der Management Fakultät und Co-Direktor des Academic Innovation Assistance Program an der SQU , hob die zentrale Bedeutung hervor , die den innovativen Initiativen junger Menschen für die Bewältigung gesellschaftlicher und wirtschaftlicher Herausforderungen zukomme .
Denn mit einer rasant wachsenden Bevölkerung – mehr als die Hälfte aller Omaner ist unter 25 Jahre alt – steht das Land vor großen wirtschaftlichen und sozialen Herausforderungen.
