Seine Geologie und Geomorphologie sind einzigartig und hier begann auch der Braunkohlebergbau in der Lausitz.
Ziel des IBA-Projekts ist es, diese Kulturlandschaft länderübergreifend zu schützen sowie die Wechselbeziehungen zwischen natürlichen Prozessen und menschlichem Handeln darzustellen und erlebbar zu machen.

Its geology and geomorphology is unique – and it is also the place where lignite mining in Lusatia began.
