Nach der Kapitulation Frankreichs setzten sowohl die Vichy-Regierung als auch die Regierung des freien Frankreichs die Latécoère 298 ein und einige Exemplare wurden von der deutschen Luftwaffe übernommen.
Die B-Version der Latécoère 298 verfügte über eine Doppelsteuerung und hatte Platz für bis zu vier Mann Besatzung, wobei der Navigator im hinteren Teil der Maschine sitzen mußte.
Das Hauptmerkmal war die Vertiefung unter dem Rumpf, die für die Aufnahme eines Torpedos , einer 500 kg Bombe oder eines Kraftstoffzusatzbehälters diente.
