„Die Herausforderung bestand nun darin, das geeignete Ausgangsmolekül zu finden, das auf einer glatten Oberfläche auch tatsächlich ‚keimen‘ würde“, so Roman Fasel.
Das gelang schließlich Andreas Mueller und Konstantin Amsharov am Stuttgarter Max-Planck-Institut in Stuttgart mit der Synthese eines Kohlenwasserstoff-Moleküls aus immerhin 150 Atomen.
