Zunächst wurde ab Sommer 1921 ein lang gestrecktes zweigeschossiges Hauptgebäude nördlich des Stadion-Schwimmbeckens für die Hochschule gebaut.
Am 26. Mai 1922 wurde der Neubau mit Turnhalle, Fechtboden, Speise- und Lesesaal in Betrieb genommen.Theodor Lewald schlug 1925 für den zu errichtenden Gebäudebezirk die Bezeichnung „ Sportforum “ vor, diese Idee fand jedoch in Berlin wenig Unterstützung.
Da sich der Begriff Sportforum trotzdem sehr schnell verbreitete, taufte am 16. September 1925 der Vorstand des Deutschen Reichsausschusses für Leibesübungen DRA das gesamte Erweiterungsgelände auf den Namen „ Deutsches Sportforum “, der bis heute Bestand hat.

On May 26th 1922, this new building, including a gymnasium, a fencing hall and a dining and reading room, was opened.In 1925, Theodor Lewald suggested the name „ Sportforum “ for the newly planned building complex – but this idea received little support.
Despite all objections, the name “ Sportforum ” quickly became popular, and on September 16th 1925, the board of the DRA officially named the expansion area “ Deutsches Sportforum “ – a name that has been used until today.
