Das Programm baut auf Ergebnissen einer Reihe von Vorgängerprojekten der GTZ ( seit Januar 2011 GIZ ) zur AIDS-Bekämpfung und zur Verbesserung des Gesundheitssystems in der DR Kongo auf :
Das Projekt „ AIDS-Bekämpfung / Bluttransfusion Kinshasa “ stellte bis 2003 sicher, dass mehr als 70 Prozent des Blutbedarfs in Kinshasa abgedeckt werden konnten.
Über ambulante Behandlungszentren in der Hauptstadt sowie in den wichtigen Städten Lubumbashi, Bukavu, Kisangani und Mbuji Mayi erhielt die Bevölkerung besseren Zugang zu anti-retroviralen Medikamenten.

The project in Kinshasa to prevent AIDS infection via blood transfusions had ensured by 2003 that more than 70 percent of Kinshasa ’ s blood requirements could be covered.
The population gained better access to anti-retroviral medication via outpatient treatment centres in the capital and the important cities of Lubumbashi, Bukavu, Kisangani and Mbuji Mayi.
