Ferner gibt es das IT-Center, das ein praxisorientiertes Kurzstudium anbietet.
Die Informatikforschung an den Hochschulen wird durch Institute ergänzt, die sich der angewandten Forschung und dem Technologietransfer in die Wirtschaft widmen, das Informatik Centrum Dortmund und das Fraunhofer-Institut für Software- und Systemtechnik (ISST), die aus der Fakultät für Informatik der Universität Dortmund hervorgegangen sind.
