Wenn ihre Betreuung in der Familie wegen der Schwere und Häufigkeit der Anfälle oder wegen zusätzlicher (geistiger oder körperlicher) Behinderungen nicht mehr möglich war, wurden die Anfallkranken häufig in Gefängnissen, "Irrenanstalten" oder ehemaligen Leprosorien (Aufenthaltsorte für "Aussätzige") untergebracht.
