In Beschleunigern kann intensive kohärente THz-Strahlung unter speziellen Bedingungen erzeugt werden, wenn die Elektronenpaketlänge vergleichbar mit der abgestrahlten Wellenlänge ist.
Im ANKA Speicherring werden diese Bedingungen durch eine spezielle Magnetoptik für den Betrieb mit kurzen Teilchenpaketen mit Strahlenergien zwischen 0.8 und 1.8 GeV geschaffen.
