Er begründete den deutschen Idealismus als Natur-, Kunst- und Freiheitsphilosophie, um in seinem späteren Denken die Faktizität der natürlichen und zumal der geschichtlichen Welt geschichts- und religionsphilosophisch zur Sprache zu bringen.
Die Kommission verantwortet die Historisch-kritische Ausgabe der Schriften Schellings, d. h. der Werke, der Nachlasstexte, des Briefwechsels und der Nachschriften seiner Vorlesungen.
Sie sieht in einer ausführlichen Kommentierung der Texte eine besondere Aufgabe.

The Commission is responsible for the historical critical edition of Schelling’s writings, i.e. his works, the texts from his estate, his correspondence and the transcripts of his university lectures.
The Commission is particularly concerned to provide an extensive commentary on the texts.
