Der Gesang der Heiligen Nacht, der in das Gloria eingegangen ist, gehört inzwischen zur Liturgie, ebenso wie die anderen drei Cantica des Neuen Testaments, die Bezug nehmen auf die Geburt und auf die Kindheit Jesu : das Benedictus, das Magnificat und das Nunc dimittis.
Während diese in die morgendliche Laudes, in das abendliche Vespergebet und in das Nachtgebet der Komplet eingefügt sind, hat das Gloria seinen Platz innerhalb der heiligen Messe gefunden.
Den Worten der Engel wurden seit dem 2. Jahrhundert einige Anrufungen hinzugefügt:

While these latter are inserted respectively in the morning Lauds, in the evening prayer of Vespers and in the night prayer of Compline, the Gloria has found its own place in the Holy Mass.
From the second century some acclamations were added to the angels words:
