Janina Kneipp hat Biologie und Physik an der Freien Universität studiert und am Robert-Koch-Institut zur Charakterisierung und Identifizierung von Prionen-Krankheiten durch Infrarotspektroskopische Untersuchungen promoviert.
Danach folgten Aufenthalte an der Erasmus Universiteit Rotterdam und am Chemistry Department der Princeton University, wo sie begann, mit der Raman-Spektroskopie zu arbeiten.
