Sie beherbergt eine der weltweit bedeutendsten Sammlungen europäischer Malerei vom 13. bis zum 18. Jahrhundert mit ca. 2.700 Meisterwerken aus allen Epochen Italienische Malerei vom 14.-18. Jahrhundert, niederländische Malerei des 15.-16. Jahrhunderts, altdeutsche Malerei der Spätgotik und Renaissance.
In den tageslichtdurchfluteten Ausstellungsräumen hängen weltberühmte Gemälde wie die " Junge Dame mit Perlenhalsband " von Jan Vermeer und eine der weltweit größten Sammlungen an Rembrandt-Werken, außerdem Gemälde von van Eyck, Bruegel, Dürer, Raffael, Tizian, Caravaggio und Rubens.

After 1470 the importance of Český Krumlov declined, probably in connection with the Rosenbergs´ temporary departure from the political scene, however, the Late Gothic style is represented here by a number of architectonic, sculpture and painting monuments.
Many cultural activities, besides others the beginnings of the theatrical tradition, are connected with the name of the Rosenberg Chancellor Václav z Rovného.
