Die mit Borrelia burgdorferi senso lato infizierten, kontaminierenden Insekten kommen vor allem in Nordamerika ( Ixodes scapularis oder I. pacificus ) sowie in den gemäßigten Zonen Westeuropas ( Ixodes ricinus ) vor.
