Gérald Schlemminger studierte Germanistik, Romanistik, Erziehungswissenschaften und Sprachlehrforschung in Deutschland und Frankreich.
Seit 2000 ist er Professor für Französisch am Institut für Mehrsprachigkeit der Pädagogischen Hochschule Karlsruhe.
