Zu den Initiatoren der Anti-Harmonisierungskampagne gehören maßgebliche deutsche und österreichische Politiker.
Den Begleitkommentar des schwedischen Migrationsministers Tobias Billström zur Torpedierung der Harmonisierung, im Zuge der Wirtschafts- und Finanzkrise sei niemand mehr bereit, Zeit und Geld in solche Projekte zu stecken, bezeichnete PRO ASYL-Referentin Marei Pelzer in einer ersten Reaktion als einen Frontalangriff auf Europa:
„ Die Krise wird zum Vorwand, Europa auf eine Wirtschaftsgemeinschaft zu reduzieren, die ihre menschenrechtlichen Kernaufgaben nur dann erledigen will, wenn dies die wirtschaftliche Großwetterlage zulässt. “ Flüchtlingspolitik findet so nur auf dem übelsten Niveau europäischer Realpolitik statt:

The accompanying comment by Sweden ’ s Minister for Migration Tobias Billström says that because of the financial and economic crises no one is willing to invest time and money in a project such as harmonization any more.In a first reaction, Marei Pelzer of PRO ASYL deems this a straight out assault on Europe:
