Hieronymus Weller von Molsdorf, lutherischer Theologe, stammte aus einem Patriziergeschlecht, das ursprünglich im Voigtland ansässig war, 1430 jedoch nach Freiburg eingewandert war.
Sein Vater Johannes Weller war Bürgermeister der Stadt Freiburg, starb jedoch schon 1509.
Für den am 5. April 1499 geborenen Sohn bedeutete der frühe Tod des Vaters, dass er zu seinem Onkel nach Naumburg gebracht wurde, wo er die Domschule besuchte.
