Bedingt durch die Auflösung der Deutschen Chemischen Gesellschaft und die Trennung der Redaktion wurden zwei Auflagen unter demselben Titel produziert, die jeweils vom Verlag Chemie im Westsektor und dem Akademie-Verlag im Ostsektor herausgegeben wurden.
Beide Ausgaben hatten inhaltliche Überlappungen; abgedeckt wurde nur etwa ein Drittel der Veröffentlichungen.

Because of closing of the Germany Chemical Society and the separation of the editorial office two different editions under the same title Chemisches Zentralblatt were produced, one by the Akademie Verlag in East Germany, the other by Verlag Chemie in West Germany.
Both editions had overlapping content, and only one third of the literature was covered
