Zu diesem Zeitpunkt wurden zwei Fachbereich und ein Zentralinstitut als organisatorische Einheiten gegründet.
In den über 30 Jahren ihres Bestehens hat sich die FHW Berlin als führender Ausbilder für den Managementnachwuchs in Deutschland etabliert.

Die ZEFG initiiert und fördert in Zusammenarbeit mit den Fachbereichen, den Zentralinstituten und den Frauenbeauftragten an der Freien Universität Berlin Projekte, die die wissenschaftliche Anerkennung der Frauen- und Geschlechterforschung vorantreiben und deren nachhaltiger institutioneller Verankerung an der Freien Universität dienen.
In diesem Sinne engagiert sich die ZEFG in der Organisation von Vorlesungsreihen, Tagungen und Workshops, in der Konzeptionierung und Koordination von Studienangeboten im Bereich Gender und Diversity, der Recherche und Bereitstellung von Datenmaterial zur Frauen- und Geschlechterforschung, der kontinuierlichen Erweiterung einer spezialisierten Bibliothek, der Förderung von gender- und diversitybezogenen Lehr- und Forschungsangeboten, der Förderung wissenschaftlicher Veröffentlichungen zur Geschlechterforschung und der Professionalisierung von Forschenden im Umgang mit den Anforderungen wissenschaftlichen Publizierens.

In collaboration with the departments, the central institutes and the gender equality officer, the ZEFG initiates and promotes projects, which advance the scientific recognition of women’s and gender studies and serve its permanent institutional entrenchment at Freie Universität Berlin.
Consequently, the ZEFG is dedicated to the organization of lecture series, conferences and workshops, to the conceptual design and coordination of courses of study in the field of gender and diversity, to research and preparation of data on women’s and gender studies, to the continuing expansion of a specialized library, to the promotion of gender- and diversity-related courses and research projects, to the promotion of scientific publications in the field of gender studies, as well as to the professionalization of researchers, who are facing the challenges of scientific publication.
