Es werden moderne virologische und gentechnologische Methoden zur Viruscharakterisierung, Diagnostik, Impfstoffentwicklung und zum Studium der Pathogenese eingesetzt.
Schwerpunkte bilden Pestiviren (Virus der klassischen Schweinepest, Virus der bovinen Diarrhöe, "border disease" Virus der Schafe) und Coronaviren der Katze.
