Schwerpunkt der Untersuchungen ist dabei die Bestimmung des zeitabhängigen Wärmeflusses in die verwendeten speziellen Probekörper und die zeitabhängige Ausbildung einer Kruste.
Anhand der in den Probekörpern bzw. im Substrat gemessenen Temperaturverläufe können durch Lösung des inversen Wärmeleitungsproblems ( englisch ; inverse heat conduction problem , IHCP ) die Oberflächentemperatur und die Wärmestromdichte als Funktion der Zeit berechnet werden .
