Im Vergleich zur xerothermen Zerynthia rumina ist Zerynthia polyxena ein eher als mesophil bis sogar leicht hygrophil zu charakterisierender Bewohner von höherwüchsigen Gras- und Krautsäumen, etwa an Böschungen, an Gehölzrändern oder auf feuchten Wiesen.
Ich fand Raupen der Art recht häufig am Rande eines schilfdurchsetzten Feuchtgebiets in der Provence, wo Aristolochia rotunda zwischen Schilfhalmen wuchs.

Compared to the xerothermophilous Zerynthia rumina, this species is more a mesophilic to even slightly hygrophilous inhabitant of higher growing grass and herb fringes, such as on slopes, edges of woods or on moist meadows.
I found caterpillars of Zerynthia polyxena quite numerous on the edge of a wetland in Provence, where Aristolochia rotunda grew between reeds.
