Die Halbleitertechnik ermöglicht die Herstellung von elektronischen und optoelektronischen Bauelementen ( Dioden, Transistoren ) und deren Integration zu integrierten Schaltkreisen ( IC integrated circuit ).
Das IHT bearbeitet in Lehre und Forschung die Grundlagen und Materialien der Halbleitertechnik, die Funktion und modeme Entwicklungsrichtungen von elektronischen Bauelementen, die auf lateraler und vertikaler Strukturierung beruhende Planartechnologie der Herstellung von Halbleiter- Bauelementen und -Schaltungen, sowie die potentiellen Wege beim Übergang von der heutigen Mikroelektronik zur zukünftigen Nanoelektronik.

The semiconductor technology enables the fabrication of electronic and optoelectronic devices ( diodes, transistors ) and their integration into integrated circuits ( IC ).
