Abfallarten, die sowohl als gefährlicher als auch als nicht gefährlicher Abfall anfallen können, werden im Europäischen Abfallverzeichnis doppelt geführt.
Sie unterscheiden sich auch durch unterschiedliche Abfallschlüsselnummern:zum Beispiel 170410* Kabel, die Öl, Kohlenteer oder andere gefährliche Stoffe enthalten, oder 170411 Kabel mit Ausnahme derjenigen, die unter 170410 fallen.Diese Eintragspaare werden auch als „Spiegeleinträge“ bezeichnet.
Bei der Einstufung von Abfällen sind alle abfallspezifischen Informationen heranzuziehen (beispielsweise die Analytik relevanter Inhaltsstoffe).

Wastes that can be classified either as hazardous or non-hazardous appear twice in the EWL (so called mirror entries) and are differentiated by their waste identification codes, e.g. 170410* for cables containing oil, coal tar and other dangerous substances, and 170411 for cables than those mentioned in 170410.
Waste classifications are required to take into account of all waste specific information such as analyses of the relevant contents, as this is the only way to determine whether the waste in question has hazardous properties.
