Er war der erste von zehn irisch republikanischen Gefangenen, die im Kampf um Anerkennung als politische Gefangene im Hungerstreik starben.
Kurz vor seinem Tode wurde er im nordirischen Wahlbezirk Fermanagh / South Tyrone zum Abgeordneten des britischen Unterhauses gewählt.

Das »artlink« Projekt bietet Künstlern die Möglichkeit, ihre Werke an nordirischen Bahnhöfen auszustellen.
Der Grundgedanke des Corporate Designs dafür ist »Verbindung«, da die Eisenbahn örtlich und Kunst gedanklich vernetzt, denn sie stellt eine Gesprächsgrundlage dar und bringt Menschen zum Weiterdenken.

The “artlink” project offers artists the possibility of exhibiting their works at Northern Irish railway stations.
The basic idea of its corporate design is “connection” because the railway links locally and art mentally, which means that it provides a basis for conversations and encourages to reflect on certain things.
