Ein Wissenschaftlerteam des Senckenberg Forschungsinstituts Dresden beschäftigte sich im Rahmen einer Studie in den Wäldern Zentralguyanas mit genau dieser Frage und fand dabei zufällig eine bisher unentdeckte Froschart, die es nur dort in einem sehr kleinen Verbreitungsgebiet gibt.
Die zugehörige Studie ist im Fachblatt Organisms Diversity and Evolution erschienen.
The Lost World, so der Titel des 1912 erschienen Romans des bekannten britischen Schriftstellers Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, spielt in einer auch heute noch beinahe vergessenen und wenig beachteten Gegend unseres Planeten, dem Guianaschild im nördlichen Südamerika.
