Das Hauptarbeitsgebiet der Gruppe Experimentelle Ozeanographie ist der polare und subpolare Nordatlantik.Aber es werden auch Untersuchungen im Mittelmeer, im Indischen Ozean und global durchgeführt.

The main working area of the Experimental Oceanography group is the polar and subpolar North Atlantic, but studies are also done in the European Mediterranean Sea, the Indian Ocean as well as on a global scale.
Funding for the research activities is provided by the European Commission, the German Research Foundation (DFG) and the Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF).
