Über 50 Jahre lang mussten die Großhändler und Nahversorger (in Wien Greißler genannt) mit dieser provisorischen Lösung zurechtkommen bis 1972 am südlichen Stadtrand der neue Großmarkt Wien-Inzersdorf in einer Gesamtfläche von 300.000 m² eröffnet wurde.
Die Lage am südlichen Stadtrand wurde einerseits wegen der damals noch verfügbaren unverbauten Fläche und andererseits aus verkehrstechnischen Gründen (Autobahnanschluss A2, A1 über A21, A23 sowie Gleisanschluss Pottendorfer Linie) gewählt;
