In den Arbeitsrichtungen Synergetik und Neuroinformatik wird das generische Verhalten biologischer und anderer komplexer Systeme aus theoretisch-physikalischer, informationstheoretischer und biophysikalischer Sicht fächerübergreifend beleuchtet ( u.a. Strukturbildung in komplexen Systemen, zeitverzögerte Rückkopplungssysteme und Modelle zur robusten Bilderkennung ).
