It only gets two months of rain a year.

The village of Abraha Atsbeha, with its population of around 5,000, was chronically dependent on food aid from the World Food Programme – a not uncommon situation in Tigray.
In 1998, it was decided that the village should be resettled.

Das Dorf Abraha Atsbeha war mit seinen rund 5.000 Einwohnern chronisch von Lebensmittelhilfen des Welternährungsprogramms abhängig – keine Seltenheit in Tigray.
1998 sollte das Dorf umgesiedelt werden – die Regierung sah kaum eine andere Möglichkeit als dieses unwirtliche Tal dauerhaft zu evakuieren, so wenig schien es noch für die menschliche Besiedlung geeignet.
