Climate Feedback and Trigger Mechanisms for Natural Hazards" geologists, volcanologists, geophysicists, geochemists but also meteorologists and biologists of Christian-Albrechts-Univers... and the Leibniz Institute of Marine Sciences (IFM-GEOMAR) in Kiel are working on a better understanding of the processes during the subduction of oceanic plates under a continent.

Other persons who brought the prize to Bremen are the geochemist, Kai-Uwe Hinrichs (2011), marine biologist, Antje Boetius (2008), and production engineer, Ekkard Brinksmeier (1999). They all received this very special honor for their outstanding contributions to research.
After obtaining her doctorate in Biology, in 1992 Nicole Dubilier first went to Harvard as a post-doc before coming to the Max Planck Institute (MPI) for Marine Microbiology in Bremen and also accepting a visiting professorship in Paris.

www.bam.deOur short mapping survey showed a very localized basin filled with nicely layered sediments.
On Friday, 5 April we sampled the basin with the CTD and water sampler, multi corer, gravity corer and the 20 m-long piston corer; all of which performed admirably and kept the geologists and geochemists very busy.
The piston corer collected a 18.5 m long sequence of very pure biogenic opal ooze, a lithology which is restricted to the areas south of the Polar Front.
www.awi.deEine kurze Kartierung zeigte, dass es sich um ein sehr lokales Becken handelt, das durch wunderbar geschichtete Sedimente gefüllt ist.
Am Freitag, den 5. April führten wir eine Beprobung dieser Lokation, mit CTD / Wasserschöpfern, Multicorer, Schwerelot und 20 m-langem Kolbenlot durch, welches zu unserer vollsten Zufriedenheit gelang, so dass die Geologen und Geochemiker alle Hände voll zu tun hatten.
Das Kolbenlot brachte eine Sequenz sehr reiner Opalschlämme von 18,50 m Mächtigkeit zu Tage, deren Lithologie auf Ablagerungsräume südlich der Polarfront begrenzt ist.
