In practical terms, each additional user increases the total system load, leading to busy signals, the inability to get a dial tone, and poor customer support.
The pair does not provide dial tone or battery (continuous electric potential), as opposed to a "wet pair", a line usually without dial tone but with battery.
Unlike a normal dial tone, a secondary dial tone is provided when a connection has already been established and, except for free calls, is being charged for.

Please note that the vocabulary items in this list are only available in this browser. Once you have copied them to the vocabulary trainer, they are available from everywhere.
