www.bioss.uni-freiburg.deB-Zellen wurden ursprünglich sogar im Huhn entdeckt und nach der sogenannten Bursa fabricii benannt, einem Organ, das nur Vögel besitzen.
Im Gegensatz zum Menschen, bei dem B-Zellen im Knochenmark reifen, findet die Entwicklung der B-Zellen des Huhnes in der Bursa Fabricii statt.
Bis heute ist aber unklar, wie die B-Zellentwicklung reguliert wird.

In humans by contrast, B lymphocytes originate in the bone marrow, and their development is well understood.Much less is known about avian lymphocyte development.
In particular, it is unclear how the whole process is regulated in the bursa of Fabricius.
