Die ETH unterstützt schon seit langem private Initiativen der Elternschaft, wie z.B. die Krippe KIKRI Zentrum, und hat im Jahr 2002 zusammen mit der Universität Zürich die Stiftung Kinderbetreuung im Hochschulraum Zürich, khiz, gegründet.
Insgesamt stehen damit den ETH Angehörigen ca. 130 Ganztages-Plätze zur Verfügung, welche von über 200 Kindern belegt sind.
