Die Forschungsaktivitäten von Prof. Ulbrich ( * 1945 ) erstrecken sich in den Grundlagen auf die Bereiche Modellbildung, Systemtheorie, Mehrkörpersysteme mit einseitigen und zweiseitigen Bindungen, Nichtlineare Schwingungen, mechanische Systeme mit zeitvariabler Struktur, Regelung und Optimierung von Schwingungssystemen.
In den Anwendungen beschäftigt er sich mit Antriebssträngen in Maschinen und Fahrzeugen, Getriebeschwingungen, elastischen Robotern, elastischen Rotoren, Mechanismen, humanoiden Robotern, Laufmaschinen, Motion Cueing Algorithmen für einen dynamischen Fahrsimulator, bioanalogen inerti¬alen Sensorsystemen sowie Kamerabewegungs-Steuerungen für Fahrzeug- und Flugsysteme.
Prof. Ulbrich studierte Maschinenbau an der TUM, promovierte dort und habilitierte sich auf dem Gebiet der Mechanik.
