Die Sozial- und Wirtschaftswissenschaftliche Fakultät der Karl-Franzens-Universität Graz wurde 1975 gegründet.
Um deren Aufbau hat sich vor allem der Betriebswirt Karl Lechner verdient gemacht . Heute zählt die Fakultät mit etwa 7.000 Studierenden und jährlich mehr als 700 AbsolventInnen zu den größten sozial- und wirtschaftswissenschaftlichen Lehr- und Forschungseinrichtungen in Europa .
Die Fakultät ist Teil der 1585 gegründeten Karl-Franzens-Universität Graz, der zweitältesten Universität Österrreichs.
