Während die Bildung von Wurzelknöllchen durch die biologische Stickstofffixierung ein Wachstum ohne zusätzliche Stickstoffdüngung erlaubt, verbessert die arbuskuläre Mykorrhiza durch eine Interaktion mit Glomus-Pilzen die Aufnahme von Phosphaten aus Böden.
Als Modell für unsere Arbeiten haben wir die Mittelmeer-Leguminose Medicago truncatula ( barrel medic ) gewählt, da viele genomische Werkzeuge für diese Pflanze verfügbar sind.
Neben der Modellpflanze Medicago truncatula arbeiten wir mit den landwirtschaftlich relevanten Pflanzen Pisum sativum ( Erbse ) und Vicia faba ( Ackerbohne ).
