Obwohl er Pfeifenraucher war, war die Maiskolbenpfeife wohl eher ein Requisitfür das Bild.Die Coleman Lantern dagegen war für viele Jahre sein Markenzechen, und führte zu seinem eigenen Befahrungsstil.
Er machte viele Touren mit Roy Davis, dem Betreiber der Cumberland Caverns.

While the corncob pipe was probably just an accesoire for the picture, the coleman lamp was his favourite lamp and strongly influenced his caving style.
He was often caving with Roy Davis, the operator of Cumberland Caverns.
