Ein neues Verfahren wertet die Blutprobe ohne chemische Vorbehandlung mit optischen Mitteln aus und kann so auch die verschiedenen weißen Blutkörperchen genau differenzieren.
Mithilfe von farbigen Laserstrahlen, die von den Blutzellen unterschiedlich absorbiert und gebrochen werden, lassen sich Streudiagramme erstellen, die für verschiedene Krankheiten typisch sind.

Aus durchflusszytometrischen Streudiagrammen entsprechend Bild 1 wurde die Anzahl der in der PCM − Region beobachteten Ereignisse gezählt.
Durch Vergleich mit der Gesamtanzahl aller beobachteten Zellen ergibt sich die relative Konzentration von Zellen in dieser Region bezogen auf die Konzentration aller Leukozyten.
